HOMEWORK

RED CRAYON

One day in class, Duncan goes to take out his crayons and findS a stack of letters with his name on

them.

Red Crayon tells Duncan they need to talk and that he makes him work harder than any of his other

crayons. All year long the red crayon wears himself out coloring FIRE ENGINES, apples, strawberrys

and EVERYTHING ELSE that ‘s RED. He even works on holidays. He has to color all the Santas at

Christmas and all the hearts at Valentine ‘s Day. He needs a rest.

The red crayon signs himself as ‘‘Your over- workED friend, RED crayon‘‘.

PURPLE CRAYON

Purple Crayon tells Duncan to listen to him. He loves that he is Duncan‘s favorite crayon for grapes,

dragons and wizards’ hats, but it makes him crazy that so much of his gorgeOUS color goes

outside the lines. If Duncan doesn’t start to color inside the lines soon …purple crayon is going to

completly lose it. The purple crayon signs himself as ‘‘Your very neat friend, Purple Crayon‘‘

BEIGE  CRAYON

Beige crayon tells Duncan he is tired of being called “ light brown “ or ” DarK tan ” because he is

neither. He is BEIGE and he is proud. He is also tired of being second place to Mr.Brown crayon, it ‘s

not fair that Brown gets all the bears, ponies and puppies while the only things he gets are turkey

dinners ( if he is lucky ) and wheat, and let ‘s be honest when was the last time Duncan see a kid

excited about coloring wheat ? The Beige crayon signs himself as ‘‘Your BEIGE friend, beige crayon‘‘

GRAY CRAYON

GRAY crayon tells Duncan he is KILLiING HIM. He knows Duncan loves elephants and he knows that

elephants are gray… but that’s a LOT of space to color in , NOT TO TALK ABOUT rhinos, hippos and HUMPBACK WHALES. He is tired after handling one of those big things, such

BIG animals… baby penguins are gray, so are very tiny rocks ,pebbles. He tells Duncan to draw one of

those in a while to give him a break. The gray crayon sings as ’’Your very tired friend, Gray Crayon’’

WHITE CRAYON

White crayon tells Duncan he colors with him, but why? Most of the time he is the same color as the

page Duncan use on–WHITE. If he didn’t have a black outline, Duncan wouldn’t even know white

crayon was THERE. He is not even in the rainbow. He is only used to color SNOW or to fill in empty

space between other things. And it leaves him fell empty. They need to talk. The white crayon sings

as ’’ Your empty friend, White Crayon’’

BLACK CRAYON

Black crayon tells Duncan he HATES being used to draw the outline of things that are colored in by

other colors, all of which think they’re brighter than him. It’s NOT FAIR when Duncan use him to

draw a nice beach ball and then fill in the colors of the ball with ALL THE OTHER CRAYONS. How

about a BLACK Beach ball sometime? Is that too much to ask? The black crayon sings as ’’Your

Friend, Black Crayon’’

GREEN CRAYON

Green crayon tells Duncan he is writing for two reasons. One is to say that he likes his workloads of

crocodiles, trees, dinosaurs, and frogs. He has no problem and wish to congratulate Duncan on a

very successful “coloring things Green” career so far. The second reason he writes is for his friends,

Yellow Crayon and Orange Crayon, who are no longer speaking to each other. Both crayons feel

THEY should be the color of the sun. He asks Duncan to settle this soon because they’re driving the

rest of them CRAZY! The green crayon signs as ’’Your happy friend, Green Crayon’’

rest of them CRAZY! The green crayon signs as ’’Your happy friend, Green Crayon’’

YELLOW CRAYON

Yellow Crayon tells Duncan he needs to tell orange crayon that he is the color of the sun. He would

tell him but they no longer speak. And he can PROVE he is the color of the sun too! Last Tuesday,

Duncan used him to color in the sun on his “HAPPY FARM” coloring book. In case he forgets, it’s on

page 7. He can’t miss it. He is shining down brilliantly on a field of YELLOW corn!

ORANGE CRAYON

Orange crayon tells Duncan he knows that Yellow Crayon already talked to him, the BIG WHINER.

Orange crayon asks Duncan to tell Mr. Tattletale that he IS NOT the color of the sun. Orange crayon

would, but they no longer speak. They both know that he is clearly the color of the SUN because, on

Thursday, Duncan uses him to color the sun on BOTH the “monkey island” and the “Meet the

Zookeeper” pages in his “DAY AT THE ZOO” coloring book. Orange is glad he is here? Ha! The orange

color sings as ‘’Your pal (and the real color of the sun), Orange Crayon’’

BLUE CRAYON

Blue crayon tells Duncan It is great to be his FAVORITE color this PAST Year, and the Year before

THAT. He really enjoys all those OCEANS, LAKES, Rivers, raindrops, rain CLOUDS and CLEAR skies. But

the BAD NEWS is that he is so short and stubby, he can’t even see over the railing in the CRAYON

BOX anymore. He needs a BREAK! The blue crayon signs as ’’Your very stubby friend. Blue Crayon

PINK CRAYON

The pink crayon tells Duncan to listen to him. He doesn’t use him at all. It’s because he thinks pink is

GIRLS’ color, isn’t it? Pink crayon asks Duncan to tell his little sister thank you for using pink to color

her “LITTle PRINCess” coloring book. He thinks she did a fabulous job of staying inside the lines!

Now, back to them. Pink crayon asks Duncan to use him sometime to color the occasional PINK

DINOSAur or MONSTER or COWBoy. Goodness knows they could use a splash of color . The pink

crayonsigns as’’ Your unused friend, Pink Crayon’’.

PEACH CRAYON

The peach crayon asks Duncan WHY did he peel off his paper wrapping. Now he’s NAKED and too

embarrassed to leave the crayon box. He doesn’t even have any underwear! How would he like to go

to school naked. He needs some clothes. HELP. The peach crayon signs as ’’Your naked friend, PEACH

Crayon’’
